Volleyball Hosts Two West Matches to Close Regular Season

The Lakers need two wins this weekend to advance to the PSAC Tournament.
ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team hosts California (Pa.) and Seton Hill in a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division matches this weekend. The Lakers face Cal on Friday, November 15, at 7:05 p.m. and then take on Seton Hill the next day at 4:30 p.m.

Live stats for both contests will be available at http://www.sidearmstats.com/hurst/wvball/.

Mercyhurst has a 16-14 overall record and a 10-8 mark in the PSAC. It needs to win both matches this weekend and have Gannon lose both of its outings to qualify for next week's PSAC Tournament. Rachel Crittle leads the team with 339.5 points, while Lexi Stefanov has scored 296.5 points this year. Nicole Texido has totaled 521 digs.

The Vulcans are 26-5 overall and 19-1 in the league. They are competing with Clarion, who is also 19-1, for the Western Division regular season title. Laurel Miller leads with 424 points and Molloy Delaney has 380.5 points this year. Samantha Rudy paces the team with 476 digs in 2013.

The Griffins have a 26-8 record, including a 14-6 mark in the PSAC. They will look to secure the third seed in the PSAC Tournament with a win this weekend. Corinne Gahagen has scored 432.5 points and Shelby Kyllo has 342.5 points on the season. Lauren Teed has recorded 533 digs for the Griffins.

Coach Ryan Patton's squad is eighth in this week's NCAA Atlantic Region rankings. Cal is first and Seton Hill is third in the rankings. At the end of the conference tournaments, the top eight teams in the rankings qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The winner of each conference tournament (PSAC, MEC, CIAA) earns an automatic bid. There are no CIAA teams ranked this week, but the conference tournament champion will receive a berth.
