ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team won, 3-1, at Gannon Tuesday night. The Lakers won by scores of 24-26, 25-19, 25-16, and 29-27 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division match.

Leading the contest, 2-1, Mercyhurst found itself trailing, 22-19, in the fourth game. Kills by
Camille Alvarez and
Lexi Stefanov inched the Lakers closer, but Gannon answered with two straight points, taking a 24-21 advantage.
Kelly Vitt assisted on a Stefanov kill, leading to a GU timeout.
Sarah Vick and
Rachel Crittle teamed up for a block on the next point and then Crittle evened the score with a kill.

Mercyhurst had a service error on the next point, but a
Sarah Wegrzyn kill tied the set at 25. Crittle combined with
Haley Adams for a block to make it match point. The Lady Knights were not done, though, as they came up with a kill to continue the frame.
Tai Lattimore followed with an assist to Adams, but an attack error made it 27-all.

Gannon made a service error, giving Crittle a chance to win the match. After a rally, the Knights hit the ball over the net, where Alvarez promptly dumped it back over, sending the Lakers onto the floor to celebrate their first win at the Hammermill Center since 2008.

Crittle led with 16 points (12 kills, one ace, six block assists). Vick and Stefanov each recorded 11.5 points, while Vitt had 25 assists.
Nicole Texido had 27 digs and four aces, while Alvarez chipped in with 18 digs.

Mercyhurst hit .152 in the match, while Gannon hit .078 in the four games.

The Lakers improved to 12-5 overall and 6-1 in the PSAC. The Knights are now 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Mercyhurst hosts Clarion and IUP at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center this weekend.
