Volleyball Suffers Pair of Five-Game Losses Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JOHNSTOWN, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team lost two heartbreaking matches in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action Friday. The Lakers dropped five-game contests to Shippensburg and Pitt-Johnstown. Both matches were held at UPJ.
 
In both outings, Mercyhurst fell behind 2-0 in the match before rallying to play a fifth frame.
 
The Lakers fell to Ship by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 23-25, and 15-13. Lexi Stefanov led with 15 kills, while Rachel Crittle added 14 of her own. Sarah Wegrzyn and Camille Alvarez posted 10 kills apiece. Kelly Vitt dished out 25 assists, while Nicole Texido led with 20 digs. Wegrzyn compiled 17 digs as well.
 
Against UPJ, Mercyhurst lost 25-23 and 25-15 to open the contest. The Lakers came back with 25-17 and 29-27 victories to force a decisive set. Pitt-Johnstown won 15-10 to take the match.
 
Stefanov recorded 19 kills and hit .421 in the contest. Wegrzyn had nine kills, while Texido compiled 21 digs. Vitt led with 32 assists and Tai Lattimore had 21 helpers.
 
The Lakers are now 13-8 overall and 7-4 in the PSAC. They travel to Lock Haven for two more crossover contests tomorrow. They face Millersville at 12:30 p.m. and then take on Lock Haven at 6 p.m.
