Volleyball Handles IUP in Straight Games Saturday

Mercyhurst swept IUP Saturday afternoon.

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team swept Indiana (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Lakers won by scores of 25-20, 25-13, and 25-17 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division match.
 
Coach Ryan Patton's squad cruised to victory over the Crimson Hawks, hitting .272 as a team in the three games. The Lakers had a .229 attack percentage in the opening frame and then posted 16 kills and a .419 hitting number in the second set.
 
Eleven different Lakers recorded kills in the match. Sarah Vick led with 12 points (11 kills, two block assists). Lexi Stefanov scored 10.5 points (nine kills, three block assists) and Kelly Vitt dished out 25 assists. Nicole Texido compiled 15 digs.
 
The Lakers are now 13-6 overall and 7-2 in the league. IUP is 4-16 overall, including a 1-8 PSAC mark. Mercyhurst travels to Johnstown, Pennsylvania, for two PSAC crossover matches next weekend.
