ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst University men's hockey team will look to bounce back from a disappointing 4-2 loss on Saturday when it hosts Canisius College in the final regular season meeting between the two teams on Tuesday night. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

The Lakers led the Golden Griffins 2-1 with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation on Saturday night at the Buffalo State Ice Arena. However, Canisius scored a pair of goals 31 seconds apart and then tacked on an empty-net goal to steal a win from the Lakers.

Mercyhurst (11-10-1, 9-6-0 AHA) dropped into a tie for fifth place, with Canisius (9-11-5, 8-6-2 AHA) in the bunched up Atlantic Hockey Association standings. However, the winner of Tuesday's contest would jump into a tie for third-place with Holy Cross.

The Lakers got goals from sophomores Ryan Misiak and Matthew Zay in the loss. Zay has scored a goal in four straight games and has a six-game point-scoring streak. Misiak, meanwhile, leads the Lakers with 21 points this season (eight goals, 13 assists). He is currently on a four-game point-scoring streak.

Senior goaltender Max Strang suffered the loss, dropping to 8-5-0 overall and 7-3-0 against conference opponents. Strang is 5-2-0 in his last seven decisions, posting a 1.83 goals against average and a .946 save percentage.

The teams have split their two meetings this season. Mercyhurst won in overtime by a 3-2 final at the Mercyhurst Ice Center back on December 18. Canisius returned the favor on Saturday.

The Lakers hold the overall series by a 38-25-9 margin.

Tuesday's contest will mark the first of three critical home games this week for the Lakers. Mercyhurst will host Army on Friday, February 1 and Saturday, February 2 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Those faceoffs are also scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
