ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team beat Kutztown, 2-0, at Tullio Field Friday afternoon.
Marissa Faso scored the Lakers' go-ahead goal midway through the second half of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover game.
The teams played a back-and-forth first half until the hosts asserted control late in the frame. The Lakers held a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners and a 9-4 edge in shots for the first 35 minutes of play. However, the scoreboard remained blank at the break.
Faso finally got on the board, cashing in a loose ball chance at the 51:30 mark.
Kelsey Lovelace followed ten minutes later, giving Mercyhurst insurance with a goal, assisted by
Meghan Smith on the right side.
Jess Wess posted five saves for her first shutout of the season. In the contest, Mercyhurst outshot Kutztown, 14-6.
Mercyhurst (3-7) returns to action tomorrow, taking on #1 West Chester in another PSAC crossover match. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. start at Tullio Field.
