Field Hockey to Host Kutztown, #1 West Chester This Weekend

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team hosts two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover games this weekend at Tullio Field. The Lakers take on Kutztown Friday, September 28, at 4 p.m. and then square off with #1 West Chester Saturday, September 29, at 1 p.m.

The Lakers are coming off a 7-0 loss at second-ranked Shippensburg September 25. Jess Wess recorded 13 saves in net. Kutztown fell, 6-1, to #3 Bloomsburg on Wednesday. Freshman Anna Behm scored for the Golden Bears. West Chester shutout tenth-ranked East Stroudsburg, 3-0, on Wednesday. Kristin Arnold posted five saves in the victory.
 
In 2012, Mercyhurst is 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC Western Division. Sophomore Marissa Faso leads the team with three goals and four assists. Meghan Smith has three goals as well.
 
Kutztown sports a 3-6 record, with a 1-3 conference mark. Jenna Gregory has four goals and five assists this season, while Emily Labowitz has four goals and four helpers.
 
West Chester has a 7-1 overall record, with a 3-0 PSAC mark. Michele Schrift has seven goals and four assists. Arnold has played every second of the season in goal, allowing fewer than one goal per game while making 41 saves. In 2011, the Golden Rams won the NCAA Championship.
