Field Hockey Downed 6-2 at #2 Bloomsburg Saturday

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team lost, 6-2, at #2 Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon. Kelsey Lovelace and Meghan Smith scored for the Lakers in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover defeat. Jess Wess made a school-record 24 saves in net.
 
Bloom went ahead 2-0 in the first half before Mercyhurst made its move. Lovelace finished a Cayla Slade pass for a goal in the 28th minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Huskies answered with consecutive scores later in the second half to make it 4-1. Smith scored at the 68:12 mark, with Marissa Faso assisting. The hosts added the final goal of the match seconds later.
 
Wess was pressured throughout the match, as Bloom attempted 36 shots. She made 16 first-half stops and nine more in the second frame.
 
Mercyhurst (2-4) heads to Slippery Rock for a PSAC West game September 18. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
