INDIANA, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team swept two matches Friday. The Lakers beat West Virginia Wesleyan and Alderson Broaddus at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)/West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Crossover, hosted by Indiana (Pa.).
The Lakers are 9-1 in 2012, including victories in each of their last nine outings. The start is the program's best since 2007, when the team began 12-1. The nine-match winning streak is the longest since the middle of the 2008 campaign.
In the contest against Wesleyan, Mercyhurst won by scores of 25-10, 25-18, and 25-19. In the opening game, the Lakers hit .423 and held the Bobcats to a -.100 hitting percentage. The second set was similar as Mercyhurst compiled 16 kills on its way to a .364 attack percentage.
Sarah Vick led with eight kills, while
Amanda Balasko had seven.
Kiera Rebert recorded 29 assists and 10 digs, while
Elyse Texido had 15 digs in the back row.
Against A-B, the Lakers won 25-16, 25-13, and 25-22. Details from the match will be available early next week.
Mercyhurst plays at the event two more times Saturday, facing Charleston and Seton Hill.
