PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Mercyhurst University women's varsity heavyweight eight boat continued its dominance at the Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday afternoon by winning gold for the fourth consecutive year. The Lakers were the only boat in the six-team race to finish in under seven minutes. Mercyhurst becomes the first school in the history of the Dad Vail - a span of 74 years - to win the event for four consecutive years.

"Our women found their identity today. The Dad Vail brought out the best in us," said Mercyhurst head coach Adrian Spracklen. "We had a race plan and stuck to it. I give Nova a lot of credit for rowing a good race and they are top-notch competitors. We're headed in the right direction and we're looking forward to NCAA's."

Mercyhurst cruised to Saturday's final by winning its heat on Friday by nearly five seconds over Central Oklahoma. Lindsey Crosby, Kate Moran, Jessica Olson, Amanda Carlyon, Jaimee Lampard, Jordan Herbert, Amanda Primett, Arden Gill, and Michelle Denninger, who make up the crew, were tested by runner-up Nova Southeastern on Saturday, but held off the competition for their fourth straight title.

The Lakers finished with a time of 6:59.64, holding off Nova Southeastern, who crossed the finish line in 7:03.91. Central Oklahoma placed third in the event with a time of 7:12.40. Grand Valley State, Barry, and Massachusetts-Lowell finished fourth through sixth respectively.

Meanwhile, the women's varsity heavyweight four, who took second in its heat on Friday, came up just short of advancing to Saturday's finals, finishing third in the semifinals.

The boat, which features Holly Ansaldi, Pia Frascatore, Leyla Dombrowski, Kristine Wright, and Mariead Manke, came in with a time of 7:46.09 in Saturday's semifinals. Bowdoin (7:36.33) and Bryn Mawr (7:37.78) held off the Lakers to advance to the finals.

Mercyhurst will now await word from the NCAA as to whether or not the team will advance to the NCAA Championships from May 25 through May 27 on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, New Jersey. The Division II women's rowing selection show will take place on Monday, May 15 at 5:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
