Women's Lacrosse Wins, 16-10, at Rock for 4th Straight Win

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team won, 16-10, at Slippery Rock Thursday night. Rebecca Himes scored five goals as the Lakers won their fourth straight. Himes also had two assists in the the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match.

The hosts jumped out to a 3-0 lead after seven minutes, but Hurst stayed with it. With 21:29 left in the first half, Kelly Palmer scored on a free position attempt to get the Lakers on the board. Kayla Minner and Meghan Hardy followed with quick scores to tie the game at 3. Midway the frame, Ally Keirn broke free for two goals, putting Hurst ahead 5-3 with 13 minutes left. Anna LeGrett scored, but the Rock responded with a goal to stop the 6-0 run. Then Keirn picked up the hat trick as the Lakers continued their pressure. 

Rebecca Himes found the back of the net with just under 10 minutes to go, but Slippery Rock answered with another score. Emma Vandenburg closed the first half with a free position goal to make it 8-6 Hurst at the break.

Himes began the second half with a goal and then Palmer followed with a free position goal to stretch the advantage to four. The Rock finally scored with 18:47 to go, but LeGrett came back with a goal to regain control. SRU answered with two goals in 15 seconds to get back in the match, but Palmer's score with 13:30 remaining gave Hurst some breathing room. Himes scored three more late to put the game away.

Himes finished with five goals and two assists. LeGrett had two goals and three assists, while Keirn totaled three goals and an assist. Minner had two goals and two helpers and Palmer posted three scores. Freshman Rebecca Muscella recorded her first career win in net, making 12 saves.

The Lakers (4-2, 2-0 PSAC) host #5 Limestone Sunday, March 25. The non-conference contest is slated for an 11 a.m. start at Tullio Field.
