Women's Lacrosse Beats Edinboro, 14-10, Tuesday

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team beat Edinboro, 14-10, Tuesday afternoon. Kayla Minner scored five goals in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener at Tullio Field.

The match started slowly, with neither team able to garner much offense. After seven minutes, Kelly Palmer got things going, scoring twice in 29 seconds to give the hosts a 2-0 edge. The teams played to a standstill after that, going another 13 minutes without a goal.

With 9:34 left in the first half, Minner found the back of the net. She then set up Ally Keirn to put Hurst ahead 4-0. After being held scoreless for over 24 minutes, Edinboro finally got on the board with 5:41 remaining. The Scots scored again, but Minner answered with her second score with just over three minutes to go. Boro responded with two goals in the final 27 seconds of the first half, cutting the deficit to 5-4 at the break.

Rebecca Himes scored three minutes into the second frame to expand the Lakers' lead, but the Scots came back again. Minner tallied another score with 23:33 to play, but Shelby Will kept Boro in it with a goal to make it 7-6.

However, Jessica Lincoln, Minner, Anna LeGrett, and Alisha Catalino each scored to stretch Mercyhurst's lead to five with 15 minutes left. The Lakers did not quite put the Scots away, but held on for the four-goal victory.

Minner totaled five goals and two assists, while Palmer, LeGrett, and Himes each had two scores. Jenny Perkins made four saves to pick up the win in net. Abbey Mackessy led Edinboro with four goals.

Hurst (3-2, 1-0 PSAC) heads to Slippery Rock for another PSAC contest Thursday, March 22. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
