LAKELAND, Fla.- The tenth-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team lost, 11-6, at Florida Southern Saturday.
Kelly Palmer led the Lakers with two goals in the 2012 season-opener.
Megan Asper began the scoring with a 3:08 into the first half. Katie Ferree followed with a goal at the 22:37 mark to put the Moccasins up 2-0.
Alisha Catalino got Hurst on the board, as Rebecca Himes set up the score with 13:48 left in the first half.
Mara Mason stretched the lead for FSC on a free position shot, but Palmer cashed in on a free position opportunity of her own to make it 3-2. Maureen Cromer scored twice in less than a minute and then Asper expanded the edge to 6-2 with 2:05 remaining.
Anna LeGrett sent the Lakers into the locker room with some momentum, scoring with 23 seconds to go.
Caitlin Chase scored 32 seconds into the second half.
Ally Keirn scored her first goal of the season to get Hurst within 7-4. Palmer followed with a goal at the 22:22 mark, but Katie Gladhill answered with a free position goal with 19:30 left.
Two more Moc goals put the match out of reach.
Hannah Corton scored Mercyhurst's final goal with 10:42 remaining.
Palmer scored twice on three shots, while Catalino recorded a goal and an assist.
Jenny Perkins made six saves in net.
Hurst continues its Florida trip with a contest at Rollins on Friday, March 2.
