Men's Basketball Falls at Ohio in Exhibition Saturday



ATHENS, Ohio- The Mercyhurst men's basketball lost, 82-42, at Division I Ohio University Saturday afternoon. Senior Luis Leao led the Lakers with 14 points and 7 rebounds.
 
Leao got Mercyhurst started with a jumper to tie the score at 2 2:02 into the game. Leao assisted on an Andy Hoying three-pointer to the put the Lakers ahead, 5-2, with 17 minutes left in the first half.
 
Callon Dailey hit a trey and a jumper to keep the visitors up, 10-7, but two Ohio three-pointers put the Bobcats up. Jonathan Ouegnin hit a triple with 7:34 remaining to slow a Bobcat run and make it 23-13. Free throws by Leao and freshman Jean Onana broke up another Ohio spurt late in the first frame. The hosts entered halftime with a 40-17 advantage.
 
Ohio began the second half on an 11-0 run before a dunk by Leao and a layup by Terrence Ingram made it 53-21 with just over 15 minutes to play. Ingram hit a free throw and then Hoying made two as the Ohio lead stretched to 55-24 midway through the half.
 
Leao scored an old-fashioned three-point play and then made a jump shot to get the Lakers within 66-35. The senior hit another basket and then Ingram nailed a triple with 5:16 to play. Ohio controlled from there, eventually taking a 40-point decision.
 
Leao hit 5-12 shots from the field for 14 points. He had seven boards and two steals. Ingram added eight points, while Hoying had seven. Nick Kellogg led the Bobcats with 19 points in 25 minutes.
 
Mercyhurst opens the 2012-13 regular season with a home game against Concord Friday, November 9. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
