Men's Basketball Falls, 71-63, at Urbana Sunday Afternoon

URBANA, Ohio- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team lost, 71-63, at Urbana Sunday afternoon. Senior Luis Leao led the Lakers with 24 points and seven rebounds in the non-conference loss.
 
Leao hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half with Mercyhurst up, 32-30. The teams played evenly early in the second frame before the Lakers began to pull away. A Leao layup and a Jonathan Ouegnin dunk made it 50-45 with just under ten minutes to play. Paul Bilbo's bucket kept a small margin and then Leao made two free throws and a lay-in for a 56-48 advantage with 7:14 remaining. After two Urbana points, Leao posted another basket for an eight-point Laker lead.
 
From there, the hosts rallied as Ramel Mitchell hit a three and Danny Goins had a layup to make it 58-57 Mercyhurst with 5:02 left. Two Blue Knight hoops gave Urbana a 61-59 edge at the 3:50 mark. The home team kept the lead the rest of the way, converting 4-5 free throw tries down the stretch.
 
Leao recorded 24 points and seven boards, hitting 9-14 field goal attempts. Andy Hoying and Terrence Ingram each added eight points, while Beau Samuelson and Ouegnin each totaled six points and five assists. Armond Battle led Urbana with 23 points and Goins had 21 in the win.
 
The Lakers dropped to 2-2 this year. They return to the court Saturday, December 1. Mercyhurst hosts East Stroudsburg in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener at 3 p.m.
