Men's Water Polo Drops First Game in California Thursday

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team lost, 8-6, at California Lutheran Thursday. Brett Luehmann recorded a hat trick and Isaac Ogloblin had four assists in the defeat.

The teams traded goals in the first quarter, as Luehmann, James Owen and Dave Matulis each scored for the Lakers. The score was even at three after eight minutes. Cal Lutheran scored twice in the second frame for a 5-3 halftime advantage.

Mercyhurst outscored the Kingsmen, 3-2, in the third period to get within one score, but the hosts held on to improve their record to 7-6 on the year.

Luehmann finished with three goals, while Owen, Matulis and Alex Strong each scored once. Ogloblin dished out a career-high four assists. Matt Cote made seven saves in net.

The Laker are now 10-3 in 2012. They continue action on the West Coast tomorrow, with matches at 3:40 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. at the Gary Troyer Tournament. Both start times are Eastern.
