Box Score
ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team beat Edinboro in four games Tuesday night at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Lakers by scores of 24-26, 25-18, 25-18, and 25-15 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division match.
The Lakers extended their winning streak to 11 matches with the victory. The team is 24-6 overall and 11-5 in the PSAC. The 24 wins are the most for the program since 1993, when Mercyhurst won 25 matches.
The Lakers have also pushed their magic number for clinching a PSAC Tournament berth to one. If Mercyhurst wins any of its three remaining conference contests, or Slippery Rock and Indiana (Pa.) lose any of their last four PSAC matches, the Lakers will earn a spot in the conference tournament for the first time since 2008.
On Tuesday, Mercyhurst struggled out of the gate, dropping the first game, 26-24. The hosts rebounded, though, taking the next three sets for the victory.
In the second frame, the Lakers contained the Scots to a -.087 hitting percentage, forcing 13 errors. The third game was the Lakers' strongest, as they hit .300, making just three errors on their way to a seven-point win. Edinboro hit -.156 in the fourth set, allowing Mercyhurst to pull away for a 25-15 win.
Veronica Crosby led with 10 kills and five blocks.
Amanda Balasko,
Becky Leusch, and
Becky Smith each posted eight kills.
Kiera Rebert and
Kelly Vitt combined for 35 assists and 25 digs.
Elyse Texido recorded 17 digs, while she and Rebert each collected three aces.
For the night, Mercyhurst .162 and Edinboro had a .013 attack rate.
The Lakers make the short trip downtown for another PSAC match at Gannon on Friday, November 2.
