Box Score

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team fell to Indiana (Pa.), 2-1 Wednesday in a PSAC conference battle.  The Lakers fall to a 4-6-1 overall record and 1-6-1 in the conference. The Crimson Hawks improve to 7-3-2, and 4-3-1 in the conference.

The Crimson Hawks scored both of their goals in the first half.  Sophomore Brittany Kuhns shot the ball into the top right corner of the net beating freshman goaltender Ellie McDougall at the 11:43 mark.  Kuhns struck again at the 20:53 mark by an unassisted goal, and took the lead at the half 2-0.

The Lakers battled back, outshooting IUP in the second 16 to one.  With a little over eight minutes left, senior Sara Hawksworth received a pass from senior Olivia Resch at the top of the penalty box.  Hawksworth took two touches and caught IUP junior goaltender Mara Hricik off guard by sniping the ball into the top corner of the net, making the score 2-1.  The Lakers would have two corner kick opportunities to tie the game, but were unable to succeed.

Freshman McDougall would receive the loss moving to 3-6 in the season.  She was relieved by junior Brooke Morrison in the second half, who made one save.  Hricik played in the entire 90:00 in net for IUP, making 12 saves and improving to 6-3-2.

The Lakers continue their season with a series of road matches.  First, the Lakers will travel to Clarion, Pa. on Saturday, October 6 to compete against Clarion University.  Mercyhurst will then travel to Lake Erie College on Tuesday, October 9.  Both matches are set to start at 7 p.m.
