Field Hockey Falls to Top-Ranked Shippensburg Wednesday

Box Score ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team lost, 5-0, to #1 Shippensburg Wednesday afternoon. The Raiders led 3-0 at the half on their way to a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division victory at Tullio Field.

Ship scored ten minutes into the first half, as Taylor Jones put the Raiders on the board. The Lakers pressured the visitors' defense for several minutes after that, highlighted by a Kelsey Lovelace attempt that hit the left post.

However, Ship responded near the end of the period, scoring twice in 1:36. Tori Ricker cashed in two rebound tries to expand the lead to 3-0 with less than four minutes to go in the first frame.

In the second half, the Raiders continued to attack, with Jones finding the back of the net at the 37:36 mark. Taylor Bender closed the scoring at the 52:20 mark.

Cayla Slade put two shots on goal and Jess Wess recorded seven saves in net.

The Lakers dropped to 6-11 overall and 3-6 in the conference. Ship improved to 16-1 overall and 8-1 in the PSAC.

Mercyhurst travels to Mansfield Saturday, October 20. The PSAC West match marks the regular season finale for the Lakers.
