Men's Basketball Prepares for Final PSAC Crossover Games

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team will host its final pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover games this weekend. The Lakers play Shippensburg on Friday, January 6, at 7:30 p.m. and then take on Cheyney on Saturday, January 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Hurst hasn't played since December 18, when it defeated Washington Adventist, 100-86, at the Mercyhurst Invitational. Coach Gary Manchel's squad is 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the league. Sophomore Matt Lee is one of the top scorers in the conference at 17.9 points. He has scored at least 10 points in every game this season. Sophomore Andrew Rickard and senior Bill Weaver are each scoring over 10 points per game on the year.
 
Shippensburg began the season 0-4, but is 4-3 since. The Raiders are 2-4 in the PSAC, having lost at Clarion and Gannon December 9-10. They came back with an 86-53 victory over Penn State Wilkes-Barre December 30. Jordan Stasyszyn is shooting 50 percent from the field and scoring 13.4 points a game. Five Raiders are averaging in double figures this season. Will Royal is recording 13.2 points and 7.2 boards per game.
 
Cheyney is 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference. Jason Sabb is scoring 19.1 points per game, while Rashaad Slappy is posting 15 points and 6.4 rebounds on the season. The Wolves haven't played since December 10, when they lost at Clarion by seven. Cheyney started out 0-4 and has lost its last three outings.
 
After this weekend, the Lakers will move into PSAC West play for the rest of the season. Hurst travels to Clarion January 11 for the division opener.
