Hurst dropped its division-opener, 71-66, at Clarion Wednesday. The Lakers tied the game at 54 in the second half, but a closing push by the Golden Eagles got them the win and sole possession of the second in the West. Meanwhile, Mercyhurst received a career-high 18 points from freshman Callon Dailey in defeat. Senior Bill Weaver posted another strong game, totaling 16 points and eight rebounds.

Slippery Rock beat Lock Haven, 84-61, at home Wednesday. Tabari Perry scored a career-high 22 points and senior Devin Taylor added 18 points and 11 boards. It was the third straight victory for the Rock, who improved to 9-4 overall. SRU leads the PSAC in scoring defense, allowing 61 points per game. Taylor heads a stellar glass attack, pulling down 11.6 rebounds per contest, tops in the conference. The Rock also leads the league in total rebounding and rebounding margin.

Coach Gary Manchel's squad is 8-5 this season. It leads the conference in turnover margin and assist-to-turnover ratio. The Lakers pace the PSAC in threes as well, hitting 7.8 per game. Sophomores Matt Lee and Andrew Rickard are a big reason for that, as Lee is second in the league with 2.8 made threes and Rickard is fourth with 2.6 made treys per outing.

Last season, the Rock took two of three meetings between the schools, including a first round PSAC Tournament game. Coach Kevin Reynolds led his team to 21 wins and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Saturday marks the start of a three-game homestand for the Lakers, as Gannon and Indiana (Pa.) visit the MAC next week.
