Laker Volleyball Defeats West Liberty at Falcon Fest Saturday

Elyse Texido has led the Lakers in digs every match this season.
FAIRMONT, W. Va.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team won one and lost one Saturday at the Fairmont State Falcon Fest. Hurst beat West Liberty in four sets after falling 3-2 to Davis & Elkins.
 
Against West Liberty, the Lakers won by scores of 25-13, 25-17, 13-25, and 28-26. Gretta Freyermuth and Becky Smith each had ten kills and Elyse Texido recorded 21 digs. Hurst hit .336 in the contest and Kiera Rebert totaled 27 assists.
 
In the first match of the day, the Lakers dropped a five-set decision to the Senators. D&E won 25-12, 14-25, 21-25, 25-12, and 15-8. Amanda Balasko led the team with nine kills, while Freyermuth and Smith each had eight. Rebert had 20 assists and Chelsea Hennigan posted 16 helpers. Texido had a match-high 16 digs.
 
Mercyhurst begins its home schedule with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)/West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Crossover next weekend. The Lakers host WVIAC programs, beginning with Seton Hill and Alderson-Broaddus on September 9. West Virginia Wesleyan and Pitt-Johnstown come to the Mercyhurst Athletic Center the following day.
