LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team won, 3-2, at Bellarmine Saturday afternoon.
Catherine Willard,
Kate Kurzanski, and
Tesa Ramsdell scored a goal apiece. The Lakers improved to 2-0 to start the 2011 season.
In the first half, Willard gave Hurst an early lead. The freshman scored her second goal of the weekend at the 13:12 mark, as Kurzanski had the assist. The Lakers maintained their 1-0 advantage going into the second half despite being outshot 9-2 in the first 35 minutes.
The Knights tied the contest at the 44:59 mark as Brittany Raque scored her first goal. Kurzanski answered with a goal in the 51
st minute to put Mercyhurst back up 2-1.
Kelsey Violanti recorded the assist. Less than a minute later, Ramsdell gave Hurst insurance with her first goal of 2011. Freshman
Tracey Mason had the helper. Bellarmine added a goal in the 59
th minute to make the final margin.
Goalie
Ashley Wiskup had a stellar day, making 13 saves. The Lakers made the most of their opportunities, scoring three goals on seven shots. The Knights posted 21 shots and 14 corners.
