Game Notes: vs Gannon, Feb. 16

ERIE, Pa. -- It's the rivalry game Mercyhurst fans have been waiting for all year.  The Laker women and men's basketball teams host Gannon University on Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The women look to post their second consecutive win over the Lady Knights and sweep the season series.  The Lakers broke an 18-game winless streak against the Golden Knights onJan.
22, with a 75-63 victory at the Hammermill Center to mark the Lakers first win over Gannon since the 2003-04 season.

The game will also have playoff implications as the Lakers face a virtually must-win situation to keep their hopes of a PSAC postseason berth alive.

For the men, the nationally-ranked Lakers can tie the program record for consecutive victories.  Ranked 17th in the latest NABC poll, the Lakers have won 11 consecutive contests and sport the PSAC's only undefeated league record at 10-0.

Since the men's and women's squads began playing each other twice in a season -- once at home and once on the road -- the Lakers have not swept all four meetings between the squads.  With the sweep at the Hammermill Center on Jan. 22, Mercyhurst set the stage for fans to possibly witness history on Wednesday night.
