ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team hosts West Virginia Wesleyan in a non-conference game Wednesday, December 14. The contest is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
 
The Lakers split two road games last weekend, winning at Mansfield before falling at Bloomsburg. Against Mansfield on December 9, senior Megan Hoffman scored 19 points and the Hurst put together a 20-0 run in the first half to pull away for a 66-47 win.
 
At Bloom, the Lakers dropped a 65-55 decision. Hoffman tied a career high with 20 points and senior Nikki Frederickson posted 14 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
 
Mercyhurst enters the match-up 3-5 overall. Freshman Lindsay Stamp leads the team in scoring at just over 13 points a game, while Hoffman and Frederickson are averaging over nine points a contest.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan is 5-2 in 2011-12, coming off a 65-50 win at Clarion December 7. Senior Lydia Bridenbaugh scored 30 points in the victory. She is the second-leading scorer in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) at 21.1 points a game.
 
The Bobcats have won the last three meetings between the schools, but Mercyhurst leads the all-time series, 6-4. Wesleyan is under the direction of first-year head coach Jackie DeVane, who has previously coached at Cheyney.
 
The Lakers host their final non-conference game of the season on December 30, when they take on Notre Dame College in a 5:30 contest.
