Women's Basketball Stumbles, 65-55, at Bloomsburg Saturday

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team lost, 65-55, at Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon. Senior Nikki Frederickson scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest.
 
Dana Wieller scored the game's first points before Megan Hoffman tied the game at 3 with a triple 2:47 into the contest. Wieller hit two more threes early, sparking a 10-point edge for Bloom.
 
A three-point play by Frederickson cut the deficit to 13-8 with 13:32 left in the first half. Wieller converted an old-fashioned three-point play to extend the home team's lead back to 10 points. After Frederickson's layup, Wieller hit another trey for a 21-10 edge.
 
Lindsey Burke nailed a three to cut the deficit to 25-20 with 4:35 to go. Catherine Noack's triple capped a 7-0 spurt to end the half for Bloomsburg.
 
Oxenrider scored 11 points in the first five minutes of the second half to make it 43-28. The lead eventually ballooned to 20 before Hurst made a run in the final minutes. Layups by Burke and Hoffman made it 54-44 with 5:26 to play. Hoffman drilled a trey to get within in 11 in the last four minutes.
 
Katie Carbee made a lay-in and Hoffman converted three free throws to make it 59-53 with 58 seconds left. Bloom made its final seven free throw tries to seal it, however.
 
Frederickson posted her second career double-double in the loss. She grabbed six offensive boards and hit 6-10 shots from the field. Hoffman led with 20 points, connecting on 6-15 shots, including three treys. She had six rebounds and two steals.
 
Wieller scored a game-high 21 points in 37 minutes. Oxenrider added 19 points and Noack totaled 10 points and seven boards.
 
Mercyhurst outrebounded the Huskies, 39-26, in defeat.
 
The Lakers fell to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC. Hurst returns home for a non-conference game against West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday, December 14, at 5:30 p.m.
