MILLERSVILLE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team lost, 62-48, at Millersville Saturday afternoon. The Lakers led 24-22 at halftime, but the Marauders proved too much in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest.

In the first half, the Lakers had a strong defensive showing, containing the home team to 32 percent shooting and forcing 12 turnovers. Megan Hoffman hit three three-pointers to lead Hurst's offense.

Millersville led in the early going, moving ahead 13-9 on an Aurielle Mosley layup with 11:32 left. The teams had an ugly stretch from there, as the score remained 13-9 for over five minutes. The teams combined for 11 missed shots and nine turnovers in the 5:13 run.

Hurst made a run on the other side of the dry spell, as Kelsey Trosch's lay-in made it 13-11. Lindsay Stamp hit a free throw and then Dana Banda gave the Lakers a 14-13 advantage with a layup at the 5:34 mark of the first half. Stamp followed with another layup to put Hurst ahead 16-15. Hoffman's triple with 4:11 left moved the visitors up 21-15, the largest lead of the game to that point. The senior hit another trey two minutes later to give Mercyhurst a 24-20 edge.

Millersville came out strongly in the second frame, scoring the first 10 points to go ahead 32-24. Hoffman connected on her fourth three-pointer of the contest with 10:48 to play, cutting the deficit to 38-34. Lindsey Burke's lay-in with 8:26 to go put Hurst down 40-37, but the Marauders went on another spurt from there. The Lakers could not respond as Millersville stretched the lead into double figures the rest of the way.

Stamp led the team in scoring for the third consecutive game, totaling 18 points on 6-14 shooting, including three triples. Hoffman added 14 and five rebounds. Banda played 37 minutes, recording five assists and three steals in the loss. As a team, the Lakers shot 32.7 percent from the field.

Millersville (1-0, 1-0 PSAC) got 16 points and 13 boards from Mosley and 19 points and eight assists from Mashira Newman.

Mercyhurst (0-3, 0-1 PSAC) returns to the court tomorrow for another PSAC game. The Lakers play at West Chester in a 1 p.m. match.
