KUTZTOWN, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team lost two matches in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action Saturday afternoon. The Lakers lost to West Chester in three sets before falling to host Kutztown 3-1.
In the first contest, Hurst and West Chester played even volleyball for the entirety of the match. However, the Golden Rams had the finishing touch in all three games.
Kiera Rebert led with 18 assists and
Chelsea Hennigan added 15 of her own.
Elyse Texido recorded 21 digs and
Becky Leusch posted nine kills. Mercyhurst had 11 kills in the first set and then 14 in the each of the next two, but it wasn't enough.
Against Kutztown, Hurst fell in an early hole again, losing the first game. The Lakers rebounded with stellar play in the second frame, winning by ten. The visitors hit .146 with 14 kills.
The Golden Bears took the third set before a tense fourth game occurred. Mercyhurst led 24-19 until Kutztown rallied to take the set and the match.
Rebert and
Amanda Balasko each recorded double-doubles. Rebert had 25 assists and 12 digs, while Balasko contributed 13 kills and 19 digs.
Becky Smith added 12 kills and Texido had 23 digs in the loss.
Hurst (12-9, 5-6 PSAC) returns to the court Tuesday, October 11. The Lakers head to Edinboro for a PSAC West match.
