ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team swept Ursuline Tuesday night at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Lakers won the non-league match by scores of 25-23, 25-18, and 25-21.
The first game was evenly matched, with each team making a run. The Lakers had the closing push, though, forcing 12 errors by the Arrows and taking the tight set.
In the second frame, Hurst had its best run, containing the visitors to -.026 hitting, while attacking at a .186 rate of its own. Coach
Ryan Patton emptied his bench in the final game, giving several seldom-used Lakers a chance to shine. Fourteen different players had at least one kill for Mercyhurst, with
Sarah Vick and
Gretta Freyermuth leading the way with six apiece.
Kiera Rebert totaled 30 assists and 13 digs. Hurst hit .135 as a team in the contest.
Mercyhurst improved to 14-14 overall, while Ursuline dropped to 8-16 in 2011.
