BOX SCORE

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The No. 4/5 Mercyhurst College women's hockey team won its third straight game with a 2-0 victory over Niagara Saturday evening at Dwyer Arena.

Senior captain Meghan Agosta scored her 27th goal of the season and added an assist to move within five points of breaking the all-time NCAA points record set at 285 by Harvard's Julie Chu. Additionally, she is now five goals away from becoming the Association's top goal scorer as well, with the record set at 150 by former Crimson forward Nicole Corriero.

Junior Jess Jones dished out two assists for two points, and freshman Christine Bestland netted her 17th goal of the season.

Mercyhurst (21-5-0, 10-0-0 CHA) scored a goal in each of the first two periods before skating to a 0-0 tie in the third.

Agosta broke the ice in the first period when she scored off of a feed from Jones with just six seconds remaining at the 19:54 mark. Bestland then found the back of the net midway through the second thanks to a play setup by Jones and Agosta on the power play at 10:21.

Junior Hillary Pattenden (19-5-0) recorded her fourth shutout of the season with 10 saves in net. Jenni Bauer, meanwhile, made 38 as the Lakers outshot the Purple Eagles 40-10.

Both teams combined for eight power plays in the game, with Mercyhurst converting 1-for-3 and Niagara finishing 0-for-5.

The Lakers close out the season series with the Purple Eagles on Sunday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m.
