EDINBORO, Pa. – The fifth-ranked Mercyhurst College women's lacrosse team bounced back from its first loss of the season by defeating Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division foe Edinboro, 19-7, on Tuesday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium.
Senior
Kristie Jennings scored a game-high four goals for the Lakers, who improved to 10-1 on the season and 5-1 in conference play with their third straight victory over Edinboro.
Sophomore
Ally Keirn recorded two goals and three assists, freshman
Alisha Catalino netted three goals, and sophomores
Laura Trenti and
Jessica Lincoln each added two goals apiece.
Junior
Kimberly Masterton and freshman
Jayne Conahan found the back of the net once and assisted on another, and junior
Elizabeth Tice, sophomore
Kelly Palmer and freshman
Melissa Leonhard recorded a goal apiece.
Mercyhurst pounced on the Fighting Scots early on, scoring six straight goals before taking a 14-3 lead into halftime. The Lakers dominated the stat sheet with a 27-9 advantage in shots and seven fewer turnovers than their I-79 rival.
Five more goals in followed in the second as MC recorded its seventh game of 15 or more goals.
Senior
Maeve McGoff (10-1) recorded the win with five saves and three goals allowed in the first half. Sophomore
Jenny Perkins played the second with one stop. Mercyhurst reeled off 13 more shots in the second to finish the game with a 40-18 edge in shots. MC also had the upper hand in ground balls, 24-21, and draw controls, 16-12.
Mercyhurst hosts East Stroudsburg this weekend in a PSAC crossover on Saturday, Apr. 10 at Tullio Field. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
