HANOVER, N.H. – In the championship game of the 2010 Ledyard Bank Classic hosted by Dartmouth College, Mercyhurst College fell 4-1 to defending national champion Boston College.
Jeff Terminesi scored the Lakers (7-10-2) lone goal just over 30 seconds into a power play at 3:19 in the second period.
The Golden Eagles (13-5-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to Kevin Hayes and Brian Gibbons. Hayes opened the scoring 5:08 before Gibbons added his goal at 12:50.
Both teams would battle through the third but the Golden Eagles added a goal by Gibbons at 18:40 before Barry Almeida added an empty net goal at 19:46 for the game's final score.
Boston College's first two goals were by power play, as the Golden Eagles finished the game 2-for-6 on the man-advantage. Meanwhile, the Lakers went 1-for-5 on the power play.
For the Lakers second-straight game they were outshot as BC held a slim 38-31 advantage, including 17-8 in the first period.
In the net,
Ryan Zapolski stopped 34 shots for the Lakers while his counterpart John Muse registered 30 stops.
The Lakers return to action on Jan. 7 and 8 when they travel to Connecticut to begin the first of 15 consecutive conference games to round out the season.
