Mercyhurst Downs Lake Erie, 92-66

ERIE, Pa. – Heiden Ratner scored a game-high 24 points and two other Lakers scored in double-figures as Mercyhurst College took a 92-66 victory in its home opener against Lake Erie.

Luis Leao chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds for Mercyhurst, and Olivier Dupiton added another 14 points to guide a total of 11 Lakers in a balanced scoring effort.

The win keeps Mercyhurst undefeated at 3-0 while the Storm moves to 2-2 on the year.

The Lakers came out of the gate shooting hot and never let up, finishing the game at 62.1 percent from the floor (36-of-58) while limiting Lake Erie to 41.1 percent (23-of-56).

After playing fairly close in the opening minutes, the Lakers began to pull away in a two-minute span that stretched a 10-10 tie into a 19-10 nine-point lead with just over five minutes expired in the opening stanza. From there, Mercyhurst continued to build on the lead and gained a 36-21 advantage in the next 10 minutes thanks to a 26-11 run in which Leao scored 11 points.

After entering halftime with a 45-31 lead, the Lakers maintained their double-digit lead for the remainder of the game and led by as many as 27 points in the second half.

Shelton Jackson finished with a game-high seven assists and Jamal Turner deposited six helpers. Dupiton dished out three assists and a quarter of Lakers in Ratner, Andrew Rickard, Jason Snow and Bill Weaver each added two helpers.

Next up for Mercyhurst is an away game at Urbana on Dec. 2. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
