No. 1 Shippensburg Blanks Lakers, 5-0

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College field hockey suffered its second straight loss in a 5-0 defeat to top-ranked and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division foe Shippensburg Tuesday afternoon in Shippensburg, Pa. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 2-7 on the season and 1-2 in PSAC West play.

The Lady Raiders turned aside the Lakers with a three-goal outburst in the first half, including back-to-back goals by Taylor Jones just over two minutes apart. Ship finished the game with a pair of markers in the second half.

Junior Ashley Wiskup suffered the loss with 13 saves through nearly 61 minutes worth of action. Sophomore Jessica Richards closed out the game with two stops. Shippensburg outshot Mercyhurst 30-7 and held a 16-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Mercyhurst continues its three-game road swing on Saturday, Oct. 9 with a 1 p.m. contest at East Stroudsburg.
