ERIE, Pa. – Junior
Rachel Sluberski scored the game's only goal during the 17th minute of play to give the Mercyhurst College field hockey team its fourth win of the season, a 1-0 decision over Limestone College Sunday afternoon at Tullio Field. The Lakers improve to 4-11 overall while the Saints fall to 5-11.
Sluberski recorded her second goal of the season and sealed the victory when she a took pass from classmate
Serena Slattery at the top of the circle, maneuvered around a Limestone defender and sent a sharp-angled shot to the far post with 17:03 showing on the clock.
The score would hold up as the Laker defense limited the Saints to just a few scoring opportunities in the first half before denying them of any in the second. Junior
Ashley Wiskup posted four saves, two of which came during an early rush in the opening minutes, to record her second shutout of the season and seventh career at Mercyhurst. The Lakers outshot the Saints 14-8, including 9-0 in the second half, and held a 12-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Mercyhurst returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 3, when Shippensburg visits Tullio Field for a 12 p.m. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division contest.
