ERIE, Pa. -- Mercyhurst took the first set of the night but could not withstand a rallying Daemen College squad that reeled off three-straight to take a 3-1 victory on Friday night, 16-25, 25-17, 25-23, 26-24.
The Wildcats (10-14) caught fire early in the second set and took off from there as four players registered double-digit kills on the night, including Birttany Anthon who had a game-high 12.
For the Lakers (15-11),
Justine Smith guided a struggling offense with 11 kills.
Gretta Freyermuth added eight and
Becky Leusch tallied seven on the night.
Kiera Rebert again led the offense with 25 assists while
Chelsea Hennigan added five helpers.
Defensively,
Kendall Ashworth posted a shared game-high 20 digs, with Daemen's Joanna Fretthold also posting 20.
J. Smith registered six blocks on the night, including one solo, to tie for the game-high as the Wildcats Kaitlin Watchey also added six.
Mercyhurst will honor its seniors
Justine Smith,
Kendall Ashworth and
Erin English in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday before the Lakers take on the Atlantic Region's top-ranked team and county-rival Edinboro at 7 p.m.
Also, the Lakers will honor Ashworth for becoming the program's all-time digs leader earlier this season on Oct. 15.
