Mansfield Downs Field Hockey, 4-2

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Mansfield scored three times in first half before adding an insurance goal in the second, as the Mountaineers defeated the Mercyhurst College field hockey team, 4-2, on Friday evening in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division contest at Lock Haven University. The Lakers fall to 2-9 on the season and 1-3 in conference play, while the Mountaineers move to 5-6 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC West.

Mansfield took control of the game early on, scoring three times within a 13-minute span before Mercyhurst could get on the board. Junior Rachel Sluberski broke up the run when she picked off a pass and sent it to the far post with 28:45 showing on the clock.

From that point, both teams would be held scoreless until the final minutes. Mansfield resumed the offense when Taryn Schawillie netted her 10th goal of the season at the 67:59 mark, while junior Serena Slattery closed out the game with a penalty-corner goal at 69:29.

Mansfield held the upper hand in the game with a 26-11 edge in shots and a 12-7 advantage in penalty corners. Junior Ashley Wiskup suffered the loss in goal with 10 saves. Jamie Twist, on the other hand, made five stops to earn the win.

Mercyhurst returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 21 with a 4 p.m. contest against Seton Hill at Tullio Field.
