Lakers Remain Perfect in PSAC

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst College Lakers continued their winnings ways Friday night, taking a 3-1 (26-24, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21) decision against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division rival Slippery Rock.

The victory is the seventh in a row for Mercyhurst as the squad improves to 12-3 overall, 4-0 in the PSAC West.  Meanwhile, Slippery Rock falls to 6-12 overall, 3-3 in the PSAC West.

A balanced offensive attacked featured three Lakers in double-figures for kills, including Chelsea Jensen.  The rookie paced Mercyhurst with a double-double as she also posted double-digits in digs with 11.

Justine Smith finished right behind Jensen with 13 kills and a team-best six blocks.  Becky Leusch deposited 12 kills while adding four digs and four blocks.

Setter Julia Butler directed the Lakers offense with 42 kills and just missed out on double-digits in digs with nine.

Kendall Ashworth posted the Lakers lone service ace on the night and led the team with 16 digss.

The Rock's Kaylee Smith recorded a game-high 19 kills.

Next up for Mercyhurst is another PSAC West showdown with Clarion on Saturday, September 26 at 7 p.m. in the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
