Lakers Take Straight-Set Victory Over West Virginia Wesleyan

ERIE, Pa.  -- The Mercyhurst College women's volleyball team (7-3) swept visiting West Virginia Wesleyan in straight sets Saturday by a 25-20, 25-13, 25-18 count.

Erin English led the way for the Lakers offense with four kills while Becky Leusch and Amanda Balasko each deposited three kills.  Four other Mercyhurst players recorded two kills, including Kelsey Richardson, Chantal Haase, Justine Smith and Lauren Wagner.

Opposite Kiera Rebert chipped in with 10 assists while setter Julia Butler added eight and Chelsea Hennigan contributed six helpers.  Butler and Hennigan also were the only Lakers to add service aces with two each.  

Defensively, 15 different Lakers added to the effort and were led by Hennigan with nine digs.  Blocking leaders included English with five and Smith.

Mercyhurst returns to action next on Tuesday, Sept. 15th for the Lakers first away match of the season when they travel to Houghton.  Mercyhurst then returns home for the fourth tournament of the regular season as the Lakers host the PSAC Crossover on Homecoming weekend, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19.
