Wiskup Records Third Shutout as Lakers Down Mansfield, 3-0

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Sophomore Ashley Wiskup stopped all seven shots on goal to record her third-career shutout and lead the fifth-ranked Mercyhurst College field hockey team over No. 9 Mansfield, 3-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division contest Saturday afternoon in Mansfield, Pa.

The Lakers, who improve to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play, supported their second-year netminder's cause with plenty of offense, scoring a pair of goals in the first half before capping off the game with an insurance marker in the second.

Senior Kristen Fogle got Mercyhurst rolling when she converted a penalty stroke just a little over 20 minutes into the game. Sophomore Rachel Sluberski followed suit less than seven minutes later, taking a pass from classmate Serena Slattery and burying it past Liz Phillippy at 26:49. Senior Emily Warren put the finishing touches on the game with a rebound shot to the upper corner of the cage at 58:34.

Both teams tied in shots with 21 apiece, however, the Lakers held a 16-7 edge in shots on goal. Mansfield finished the game with a 12-8 edge in penalty corners.

Due to the postponement of the Mercyhurst-Bellarmine game on Sunday, the Lakers won't return to action until Wednesday, Sept. 16, when they take on Seton Hill in Greensburg, Pa.
