Lakers Snap Streak WIth 95-83 Win Over Lock Haven

Nnamdi Nnadili's career-high 27 points paced four Lakers in double-figures.
ERIE, Pa. – Four Mercyhurst players scored in double-digits, led by a career-high 27 from Nnamdi Nnadili, as the Lakers avenged a mid-season loss to Lock Haven, 95-83, in front of 261 fans at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

The victory snapped a five-game skid for the Lakers while the 95 tallies represents the highest Mercyhurst point total since defeating Point Park in 2002-03 by a 102-68 decision.

Playing in his final home game, senior Brian McTear contributed 19 markers on 6-of-13 from the field and Srdjan Popovic added 13 tallies. Jordan Armstrong rounded out the Lakers in double-digits with 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Lakers trailed just once in the game when a layup by Lock Haven's Eric Brennan gave the Bald Eagles an early 7-6 lead. However, Mercyhurst answered with three consecutive 3-pointers midway through the first half to hand the Lakers a 27-15 lead with 7:33 remaining in the opening stanza.

The Lakers stretched their lead to 14 after back-to-back 3-pointers by Nnadili and Niv Zinder with 2:03 remaining and headed into the locker room with a 40-33 advantage after the Bald Eagles benefitted from two layups by Kelvin McLean and two free-throws each from the game's leading scorer Billy Arre (35 points) and Brennan.

Mercyhurst shot 53.8 percent from the field in the first half (14-of-26), including 6-of-12 from 3-point range, while Lock Haven hit 40 percent from the field (12-of-30).

In the second half, Nnadili turned up the offense, dumping 19 points on 4-of-7 from behind the arc and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. Eight of those second-half points came in a 29-13 run that helped Mercyhurst turn a slim 57-51 lead with 12:57 remaining into an 86-64 advantage with just under three minutes remaining.

The Bald Eagles almost cut the lead to single-digits when Arre nailed all three of his free throws after being fouled to make it a 91-80 Mercyhurst lead with 56 seconds left to play, but the Lakers connected on 4-of-6 from the line to close the game.

The Lakers finished the game shooting 61.5 percent (35-of-52) after recording a blistering 69.2 percent (18-of-26) in the second stanza.
