Agosta and Chouinard Score Four Each in Lakers' 8-1 Rout of Colonials

Erie, Pa. – Junior captain Meghan Agosta and senior assistant captain Valerie Chouinard scored four goals apiece as the No. 3 Mercyhurst College women's hockey team handled Robert Morris, 8-1, in a College Hockey America contest Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers, who now have won nine straight and 20 of their last 21 games, improve to 23-5-0 overall and 12-0-0 in conference play.
Agosta and Chouinard combined for 11 of the Lakers' 22 points in the game. Agosta led the offense with six points to increase her career total to 196 while Chouinard added five to stay 10 behind her at 186. Sophomore Jesse Scanzano also got in on the action with four assists.
After falling behind on a goal by Sara O'Malley just 2:56 into the contest, Mercyhurst rebounded with eight scores, including four in the third period, to mark its 18th straight win over Robert Morris (18-0-0).
Chouinard started the Lakers' offensive run in the first, scoring back-to-back power-play goals at 6:46 and 12:57 to take a 2-1 lead into the middle stanza.
Following the intermission, Agosta took over with the next four tallies. She added her first two in the second at 5:07 and 18:12 before netting two in the third at 4:05 and 8:55.
Chouinard closed out the game with goals less than 30 seconds apart at 11:04 and 11:33.
In net, senior Courtney Drennen won her fifth straight decision with 12 saves through 50:58 while classmate Nicole Nelson wrapped up the game with three saves in 8:56.
Mercyhurst outshot the Colonials, 39-15, and converted 4-for-9 on the power-play. The Lakers' penalty kill held Robert Morris 0-for-7 with the extra-man.
The Lakers close out their home schedule next weekend when Niagara comes to town for a two-game series on Friday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21.
