Game Story: The Fighting Scots of Edinboro visit the Mercyhurst Athletic Center for the first time as a PSAC Western Division opponent. Edinboro is tied for second place in the West with IUP while the Lakers sit in fifth-place, two games behind SRU. Mercyhurst looks for the season sweep of Edinboro after posting a 76-71 overtime win at McComb Fieldhouse to snap the Fighting Scots 31-game home winning streak. Edinboro has not been swept by a Western Division opponent since Shippensburg in 2005-06.
Last Meeting: Mercyhurst survived a late second-half surge by Edinboro that forced overtime to snap a two-game skid and earn the Lakers first PSAC Western Division victory, 76-71, in front of 1,417 fans at McComb Fieldhouse. The Laker victory also snapped the Fighting Scots 31-game home winning-streak as Mercyhurst improved to 13-3 overall, 1-2 in the PSAC West while Edinboro moves to 12-4 overall, 2-1 in the PSAC West. With 1.3 seconds left on the clock EUP's Chris Bess nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key to kick it into overtime. In overtime, the Lakers outscored Edinboro 14-9 to seal the victory.
LAKERS EQUAL 2007-08 SEASON WIN TOTAL
With its win over California on Jan. 31, Mercyhurst equaled its win total from a season ago when the Lakers went 15-13 overall. Last season, Mercyhurst hit a mid-season slump when it went 1-4 after the New Year, then closed out the season with a 7-3 mark, including a 6-game winning streak.
SEASON SWEEP
The Lakers look for a season sweep against Edinboro after taking a 76-71 overtime decision at McComb Fieldhouse to snap the Fighting Scots 31-game homecourt winning streak. Edinboro has not dropped two conference games to the same opponent since Shippensburg swept the Fighting Scots in 2005-06. A year ago, Mercyhurst posted three season sweeps against GLIAC opponents Ashland, Hillsdale and Wayne St. while being swept by Gannon and Findlay.

The margin of victory in the Lakers last six games is 4.3 points, with Mercyhurst going 3-2 during that stretch. The last three Laker games have been nailbiters, with just 2.5 points separating the squads (W vs California, 66-64; L vs Gannon, 59-57; L vs Slippery Rock, 72-69).

In the last four games, the Lakers have made nearly as many 3-pointers as the opponents have attempted. Mercyhurst is 32-of-95 from long-distance in comparison to 17-of-59 from behind the.

The Lakers 3-point field goal attempts account for 40 percent of their total field goal attempts (462-1161). That figure leads the league, with Slippery Rock (521-1390) and Mansfield (427-1129) second at 37 percent.

MERCYHURST ENTERS ATLANTIC REGION RANKINGS
The Lakers entered the NCAA II Atlantic Region rankings on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at No. 7 after posting back-to-back wins over Clarion and California.
BEST START IN HISTORY
The Lakers 11-0 record is the best in school history, surpassing the 9-0 mark set by the 1977-78 squad. That team went 26-3 overall and lost to Kearney in the NAIA Tournament, 70-69.
LAKERS ENTER NAT'L RANKINGS
Mercyhurst entered the NABC/Division II Top 25 for the first time this season in the poll released on Jan. 6. The Lakers earned the No. 21 ranking after stretching its unblemished record to 11-0 after posting wins at Shippensburg (72-66) and Cheyney (66-64).
DID YOU KNOW?
The No. 21 ranking is the highest the Lakers have been ranked since holding No. 17 Jan. 30, 1986. During the 1985-86 season, Mercyhurst vaulted as high as 13th in the nation in mid-January. That team, coached by Billy Kalbaugh, went 21-7 on the year, narrowly missing the NCAA Tournament.
RECORD VS. PSAC WEST
Prior to joining the PSAC this year, Mercyhurst had met Western Division opponents 155 times in the 38-year history of Laker basketball. Mercyhurst posted a 66-89 record against California (4-2), Clarion (12-23), Edinboro (25-40), IUP (3-9), Lock Haven (6-2) and Slippery Rock (16-13) as a non-conference opponent.
