Mercyhurst Sweeps Lake Erie

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst College women's volleyball team improved to 14-5 on the year with a 3-0 whitewashing of Lake Erie College.  

The Lakers took down The Storm 25-11, 25-21, 25-15 as 13 different players recorded kills in a very balanced offensive scheme.

Leading the way for the 'Hurst was Becky Smith, who finished with a game-high eight kills.  Tying for second on the team in kills were Chelsea Jensen, Gretta Freyermuth and Justine Smith with four kills each.  Five others recorded at least two kills, led by Becky Leusch, Kelsey Richardson, Erin English, Lauren Wagner and Kiera Rebert.  

Setter Julia Butler recorded 22 assists on the night and needs just 21 assists to take over second on Mercyhurst's all-time list. 

Jensen add three more aces, bringing her season total to 35.  

Defensively, libero Kendall Ashworth contributed 17 digs and Smith added five block assists while Chantal Haase posted three block assists.

For The Storm, Michelle Naab and Nicole Kunar had five kills, Krista O'Connor added eight assists and Paige Baldauf had nine digs.  Rachel Smallwood recorded four blocks.

Next up for the Lakers is an eight-game road swing  that begins this weekend at Millersville for a PSAC Crossover weekend against Shippensburg, Lock Haven and host Millersville.
