WALTHAM, Mass. – The Mercyhurst College men's hockey team fell to 1-5-1 on the season as the Bentley Falcons defeated the Lakers 4-2 on Friday evening at the Ryan Skating Arena in Waltham, Mass. The Falcons used a late power-play surge in the second and third periods to seal their second-straight win over Mercyhurst dating back to last season.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the second, Bentley broke the deadlock when Dan Koudy scored the team's second extra-man goal of the game with 4:06 remaining in the frame. The Falcons eventually added an insurance marker late in the third, as Joe Campanelli made the score 4-2 on another power-play attempt at 15:12.
Both teams opened the game by trading goals near the end of the first period. Junior
Brandon Coccimiglio started the scoring with his third goal of the season at 14:51, followed by a 5-on-3 strike from Bobby Preece to tie the game at 19:02. After a goal from Marc Menzionne that gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead at 6:22 in the second, junior
Mike Gurtler wiped the slate clean with his first of the season at 8:40.

Ryan Zapolski stopped 28 of Bentley's 32 shots and allowed one even-strength goal. The Falcons finished the game with a 32-28 edge in shots and converted 3-for-6 on the power play. Mercyhurst finished 0-for-5 with the extra skater.
Both teams conclude the series on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 7:05 p.m.
