ERIE, Pa. - The tenth-ranked Mercyhurst College field hockey team was shutout for just the second time this season, as No. 1-ranked Bloomsburg defeated the Lakers, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Tullio Field.
The Lakers fall to 9-7 overall while the Huskies improve to 7-1. Both teams will meet again next weekend in the first round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Field Hockey Tournament.
Bloomsburg scored two goals in the first 16 minutes of play before capping the game off with an early strike in the second half. Amanda Riley put the Huskies out in front with a goal at the 1:15 mark, followed by a tally from Alexis Weber at 15:07. Erin Hench stretched the lead to 3-0 at 41:08.
Sophomore
Ashley Wiskup made one save as the Huskies got only four shots on goal. Mercyhurst outshot Bloomsburg 11-9 and held a 6-5 edge in penalty corners.
The Lakers close out their regular-season schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 28, with a visit from Seton Hill at 4 p.m.
