Storrs, Conn. – The No. 4 Mercyhurst College women's hockey team saw its 11-game winning streak come to an end Friday evening as the No. 10 Connecticut Huskies pinned a 3-2 setback on the Lakers at the Freitas Ice Forum in Storrs, Conn. The loss, which marks the first since Oct. 31, 2008, drops the Lakers to 14-5-0 on the season and 6-5-0 on the road. The Huskies, on the other hand, improve to 15-6-0 with their ninth straight win.
Despite unleashing 41 shots for the game, the Lakers were held to two goals as senior goaltender Brittany Wilson made a season-high 39 saves, including 19 in the third period.

The score remained 1-0 up until the final minutes of the second period when the Huskies caught fire with back-to-back scores. Monique Weber knotted the game at one with a power-play score at 12:26 followed by a strike from teammate Kristen Russell to take the lead less than three minutes later at 15:26.
Sophomore
Jesse Scanzano made the score 2-2 with just 2:55 elapsed in the third thanks to help from freshman

However, the Huskies would break the deadlock two and a half minutes later when Michelle Binning found the back of the net with her team-leading 14th goal of the year on the power-play. Connecticut finished the game 2-for-6 with the extra-man while Mercyhurst was shutout on four chances.
Freshman
Hillary Pattenden suffered her just second loss of the season, stopping 18 of the Huskies' 21 shots.
Both teams meet again for game two of the series on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 4:05 p.m.
