Indiana (Pa.) - The Mercyhurst women's volleyball team dropped the opening set to Indiana (Pa.) Tuesday night but rallied to win three consecutive sets to earn a 26-28, 25-22, 25-16, 26-24 PSAC West Division victory.
Mercyhurst was unable to get past the home team in the opening set but
Erin English,
Jenna Matson, and
Lauren Kubinski posted balanced numbers offensively to propel the Lakers over the next three sets. English and Kubinski ended with 13 kills and Matson had 12 and 17 digs.
Freshman
Chelsea Hennigan was critical in the service game, picking up two aces and helping the Lakers in key spots throughout the match. Junior setter
Julia Butler had 41 assists and libero
Kendall Ashworth had a team-high 18 digs. Sophomore
Justine Smith added five blocks.
Indiana (Pa.) dropped to 4-12 and 0-6 in PSAC West play with the loss and the Lakers improved to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the division. Mercyhurst holds onto sole possession of third place in the division with the win and will play three matches against PSAC East schools this weekend at West Chester University. The Lakers play East Stroudsburg Friday at 7:15 p.m., Millersville Saturday at 12:30 p.m., and West Chester Saturday at 3 p.m.
