Lakers Beat Lock Haven, Drop Five-Setter To Shippensburg

California, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's volleyball team picked up a big win over Lock Haven early Saturday, but lost a five-set match to Shippensburg in its final match of the California (Pa.) Invitational. Mercyhurst handed Lock Haven just its second defeat of the year with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-21 sweep before losing to Shippensburg 25-19, 19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-13.
 
Lock Haven fell to 16-2 with the loss to Mercyhurst as the Lakers hit .322 for the match. Lauren Kubinski had eight kills and five aces, while Erin English added seven kills and four blocks. Katie Fritz and Jenna Matson had seven kills each, and Kendall Ashworth had a team-high 10 digs.
 
Shippensburg improved to 11-9 on the season by coming from behind to defeat the Lakers. Matson led Mercyhurst with 14 kills and Kubinski added 11 more. Fritz had nine digs and 17 digs and Ashworth led the team with 29 digs.
 
Mercyhurst is 9-8 and will travel to play Indiana (Pa.) Tuesday at 7 p.m.
