Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College men's hockey team completed its first sweep of the season with a 6-3 win over Atlantic Hockey foe Army Saturday evening at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

The Lakers, who are unbeaten in their last three games, improve to 3-8-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference while Army drops to 3-7-1 on the season and 3-6-1 in AHA action.

Sophomore Scott Pitt and freshman Phil Ginand led all scorers with three points apiece. Pitt tallied two goals and added an assist while Ginand netted his first collegiate marker and helped out on two others.

After falling into a 2-0 hole to start the game, Mercyhurst answered back with four consecutive goals to take a 4-2 advantage. Senior Brett Robinson cleared the slate with back-to-back makers at 10:22 and 19:41 of the first period followed by power-play strike from Ginand to give the Lakers the lead with just 2:38 elapsed in the second. Pitt provided the eventual game-winner less than four minutes later at 6:21.

Army broke up the run nearing the end of the frame when Bryant Skarda connected on the extra-man attack at 15:28, but a second goal by Pitt at 16:23 increased the lead back to two.

Junior Neil Graham closed out the scoring with his second tally of the season at the 8:03 mark of the third period.

Despite getting outshot 21-16 through the first two periods, Mercyhurst finished the game with a 28-26 edge in shots. Sophomore Ryan Zapolski earned his second straight win with 23 saves.

Mercyhurst returns to action on Friday, Nov. 28 when the Lakers take on Rensselaer in the opening round of the RPI Tournament in Troy, N.Y. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
